Arrows beat Paderborn and kept the spot for Champions Cup
Ostrava entered relegation group with a win from the group stage. If they wanted to avoid being the last, they needed to win at least a game. And they managed to do just that on Friday.
Arrows has a good cup this year and German players got a taste of it in the first inning, where Ostrava team scored 4 runs. Their good offense was supported by solid pitching. Starter Jiří Hikl only allowed 4 hits in 4 innings. Paderborn managed to score two runs after taking advantage of a rare defensive error.
However, Ostrava was able to find an answer when they returned 2 runs in the fourth inning thanks to Jakub Kubica who batted in both of them.
Paderborn wouldn’t give up easy, however, and team from northern Moravia had to keep in mind Draci game in the group stage. Christiaan Beyers affirmed this with a three run homerun and suddenly Arrows were only a run ahead. Germans made another error in the bottom half of the inning and Ostrava added one more run. Ondřej Satoria then closed the game and earned a Save.
It was the third win for Arrows, which marks it as the best Champions Cup they had to date. Furthermore, they also ensured they won’t finish last, which would mean a loss of a spot for the upcoming Champions Cup for Czech Republic. They will face Draci on Saturday and if needed losing would ensure Czechs will keep both spots next year.
