Czechs beat Austria and will play in Prague Baseball Week final
The second game at Prague Baseball Week saw Czech national team face Austria. Czechs won in the end and ensured their spot in the finals on Saturday.
First three innings looked like the game will be a breeze for the Czech team. The national team went ahead in the second inning after a hit from Vojtěch Menšík, for them to increase their lead an inning later thanks to his brother Matěj who blasted a solo homerun. Vojtěch then hit a good line drive to left and helped his team to 4-0 lead in the fourth inning.
Austrians, however, found a way to bat against Filip Čapka in the bottom half of the inning and after a series of hits Czechs decided to substitute him. However, Danial Mráz, who came afterwards, wasn’t able to quickly stop his opponents and suddenly Austria was 5-4 ahead.
But Czechs managed the similar feat in the following half inning. They scored five runs a few with help of defensive errors. More importantly, Julian Faulhaber, the left handed pitcher, was also substituted and Czechs now had Austrian bullpen in front of them, which was working much better for them. Czechs added three runs in the sixth inning and increased their lead with another run in the seventh.
Daniel Mráz and Jake Rabinowitz in the last inning then didn’t allow any more runs and Czechs won their second game of the tournament. Thanks to this they ensured their spot in the finals. They will face BBJO Globetrotters, who they also play on Friday to determine the placement in the group stage and who will play the final as the home team.
