Draci Brno lost their third game at Champions Cup

Draci faced likely their toughest opponent so far at Champions Cup this year – current champion from Parma. Czech champions were able to keep up with Italians, however, it wasn’t enough to get the win.

Brno team started with Jan Vašourek on the mound, and Parma scored two runs against him in the first inning. Draci starter threw six innings in the end, in which Italians reached the home base six times. Two of these, however, are due to a defensive errors.

The fifth inning saw Brno score a run as well, when Arnošt Dubový batted in the first and Andres Angulo added another in the following inning. Parma starter Diago Fabini didn’t allow Czechs more, though.

Draci had a chance to mount a comeback in the ninth inning when they loaded the bases in the ninth inning with two outs. Italians substituted their pitcher, which turned out to be a wise move. Matteo Bocchi closed the game with a strikeout against Filip Moštěk and Parma won 6-2.

Czech champions finished the group stage with record 1-2 and have to wait for the result of the game between Amsterdam and Paderborn. If Amsterdam wins, there is a slim chance Draci can advance to semifinals. Otherwise they will play for 5th – 8th place, where they need to ensure Czech Republic will keep two spots in the next year’s cup.
