FC: Apollo Bratislava lost a close game against Dornbirn
After winning against Zürich, Apollo had a tougher from Austria ahead of them. Slovak champion lost to Dornbirn in the end after a close game which finished with a closest difference possible.
Dornbirn took the lead in the first inning after they loaded the bases and Kruno Gojkovič got base on balls.
Bratislava had to wait until the third inning to score against Šotar Usuia, where they loaded the bases without an out. Alexander Václavík was then walked and Apollo tied the game. Afterwards, Matej Rudohradský repeated the process and he gave his team the lead.
But this didn’t last long as Indians got two runs back in the bottom half of the inning and added another in the fifth inning. Starter Jakub Ižold didn’t allow them more, however. Apollo pitcher finished with 6 IP and 11 SO. Jaroslav Kosna then came to finish the game.
Indians, on the other hand, had to sweat after Usuia’s substitution. Bratislava scored only a run in the eighth inning, despite having two runners in scoring position with one out. Apollo entered the ninth inning with two quick outs, but Michal Ešmír and Matej Škerlec reached the base on balls. Afterwards Jakub Horáček battled in the batting box and Austrian defense then made an error after his hit, which resulted into the fourth run. When the game getting dramatic, Indians sent Chris Squires on the mound, who finished the game with a strikeout.
Dornbirn and Belgian Deurne Spartans are currently the only two teams without a loss. Apollo now cannot lose any more games if they want to advance.
