FC: Apollo lost again and won’t be a part of the tournament final it is hosting
Fans of Apollo Bratislava had an unfortunate deja-vu. Their team allowed one big inning against them and it cost them the chance for a victory and a chance to play in the final.
Slovak champion started from behind in the first inning, after Ukrainians scored 3 runs in the first two innings. Home team scored in the bottom half of the second and they managed to tie the game thanks to hits from Jakub Horáček and Alexnader Václavík.
But everything changed in the 4th inning. Visitors started it with a two run homerun and they didn’t let out till the end of the inning. CNTU-OSDYSSOR-Gorn batters saw Martin Gieci’s pitches well and forced him to leave the mound with Jaroslav Kosna coming from the bullpen. But he was welcomed with another two run homerun from a bat of Viacheslav Babii. Ukrainians scored eight runs in the inning and had the game well in hand.
Apollo had issue scoring the runs and it was their opponent who added three more runs in the seventh inning. Thanks to this the run difference moved to more than 10 runs and the game finished on mercy rule.
After the loss Apollo lost their chances of playing in the final. They also have a slim hope of moving to the third place, which would ensure them a spot in 2024 Federations Cup.
