U12 EC: Semifinals drama went better for Germany
Three outs were all Czech national team needed to advance to U12 European Championship finals. But a better sixth inning sent Germany to battle for the gold instead.
Germany had a better beginning of the game, leading 5-1 before the bottom of the third inning. Their starter Felipe Morales Weggemann caused a lot of trouble to Czech batters at the beginning. However, the bottom half of the inning went great for the Czechs, as they scored four runs after a series of hits and Germans had to make a substitution on the mound.
The fourth inning went even better for Czechs when Dominik Malý batted in the sixth run and Czechs took their first lead of the game. The 6-5 score was on display before the last, sixth, inning as well. Czechs only need to keep Germans scoreless. However, the first batter of the inning sent the ball behind the fence and the game was tied. A few moments later Germans loaded the bases, for Felix Blesing to hit a grand slam homerun and give Germans 11-6 lead.
Czechs were unable to mount a comeback in the bottom half of the inning and they left the game defeated. Czechs will have have to wait another year for gold medals and will play for bronze against Italy instead.
