The first game of Czech Series offered a close game and the first point for Draci
The first game of this year’s Czech Series started on Friday. It was Draci who came on top in a close game after they beat Tempo 3-2.
Reigning champions started the game better, after Arnošt Dubový gave them the lead in the first inning. Milan Prokop the batted in the second run in the third inning. Jhenderson Hurtado had a good start on the mound, but the second inning saw home fans‘ blood freeze, as Venezuelan pitcher seemed to have some troubles. After a short pause and refreshment he, however, caught his breath and continued in the game.
Visitors added their first run in the fourth inning, when Filip Smola batted in Keibert Petit. Draci responded in the following half inning with a solo homerun from Martin Kalábek. But this was all Marek Minařík on Tempo mound allowed to Draci. Visiting pitcher remained pitching till the end of the game and threw 117 pitches.
The sixth inning started well for the visitors after the first three batters reached bases and Filip Smol lowered Tempo’s deficit to one. Hurtado then helped himself with two strikeouts and he didn’t allow any more.
Hurtado remained on the mound for 8 innings and he striked out 14 batters. Draci, maybe a bit surprisingly, sent Juan Jaime to close the game. He didn’t allow any drama and finished the game with three strikeouts.
Draci won the first game of Czech Series and are one step closer to defending the title. However, Tempo showed that they won’t give up without a fight and we have exciting games to look forward to.
