U23 EC: Czechs beat Austria to get the first win
Czechs faced Austria in the third game at U23 EC. They were not only trying to get their first win, but also to get the best possible position before the placement group.
National game started the game well, when they loaded the bases with two outs in the first inning. However, Austrians then caught Milan Prokop and Czechs had to be content without any runs scored.
But what didn’t work out in the first inning, happened in the second. Austrians helped Czechs with an error and Vladimír Chlup’s team scored two runs. They then added two more runs in the next two innings and took 4-0 lead.
Tadeáš Kalčev started on the mound and he had a good outing as he didn’t allow any hits and striked out 2 in three innings. Matyáš Trčka then continued in the similar way. He threw an inning more and sent 7 batters away from the batting box with a strikeout.
In the end, Czechs added another run after Jakub Winkler’s double in the fifth inning. Thanks to this they won 5-0 and earned their first win of the tournament. They enter placement group with a win and will face Belgium and Italy.
