CBC: Quarterfinals stopped First League teams
Czech Baseball Cup quarterfinals were played in the previous week, dashing hopes of First League teams.
Current Extraliga champions Draci Brno took the series against Hluboká as an exhibition and so we got to see members of their fun club, or even a hockey player in their roster. Familiar names from Draci past, such as Pavel Budský, Tomáš Polanský, Martin Veselý, and Karel Hrušovský were also seen to return to the field. It seemed to be enough against a young south Bohemian team as Draci advanced to the next stage after two wins.
After playing each other in Promotion League, Arrows and Technika met again. And once again north Moravians were on top, after beating Brno 16-1 and 5-3. Ostrava could rely on their pitchers, who only allowed 4 runs. Furthermore, duo Ondřej Satoria and Matyáš Pjontek striked out 11 batters in the first game.
The first team to play quarterfinals were Nuclears and Hippos. Both teams had an inning where they scored 5 runs in the first game, however, Nuclears then added another just like that winning 13-6 in the end. The second game was dramatic till the very end. Hippos almost mounted a successful comeback, as they were losing 1-6 at the beginning of the ninth inning. With 5-6 and one out, they had 2 runners in the scoring position. However, Maxim Samson managed to keep a cool head and Třebíč advanced into the semifinals.
The last series was between SaBaT and Hroši and once again it was decided with two games. Hroši manager Alex Derhak threw a complete first game and Brno team won 8-3. We also saw a complete game from one of the starters in the second game. This time it was Kryštof Dupal, but despite his heroic effort SaBaT was unable to get the win. Even so Prague team was close to a comeback, but they were only able to get to 5-6.
We will see Draci face Hroši, while Nuclears will play Arrows in the semifinals.
