U18 WC: Czechs played a close game against Porto Rico
Their first game at U18 World Cup had to be rescheduled due to inclement weather, but Czechs finally got to play in Taiwan. They kept up with Porto Rico for half of the game, but in the end they lost 2-6.
Czechs entered the game actively, and they managed to get runners on bases. However, they only got their first run in the fourth inning, when Jakub Winkler batted in Matouš Bubeník.
Starter Viktor Beránek caused troubles to Porto Rico batters for three inning as they were unable to come up with anything against him. This changed in the fourth inning, when he allowed six batter on bases and suddenly Czechs were 1-4 behind. Matyáš Trčka came in for Beránek. The new pitcher threw half an inning without a run allowed, but he had to be substituted an inning later when Porto Rico added two more runs.
Vojtěch Ventruba and Michael Dominik Senay didn’t allow their opponent any more runs for the rest of the game and Czechs had a chance to turn the tied. They managed to put together a nice sequence in the seventh inning, when they loaded the bases without an out. In the end, they only scored one run and lost 2-6.
Czechs will continue on Sunday, this time against a clear favorite South Korea.
