U18 WC: Young Czechs lost 1-14 to South Korea
The second game of U18 World Cup saw Czechs face South Korea. European team was unable to beat the favorite of the game, however, they played all seven innings.
The game was moved to 9 am (CEST) due to expected bad weather, however, it still started two hours later. And it could be a wet ball which was behind the error in the first inning, which saw Korea took the first lead of the game. Czech starter Ondřej Vank had a good game, throwing 2.2 inning, with Korea scoring 3 runs.
Korean were able to steadily increase their lead Czech bullpen until they were 14-0 ahead. However, most of their runs came in the last inning, with Vojtěch Ventruba, who had issues with pitch control, stood on the mound. Young pitcher walked 5 batters.
Czechs bats were much quieter, and the team had to wait for the first runner on the base until the fourth inning, which came after a hit from Šimon Klacl. It wasn’t until the seventh inning that Czech had another hit thanks to Pavel Jozek and they scored their first and only run. The final score thus settled at 1-14.
Petr Čech’s team will play their third game of the tournament on Monday, facing hosts from Taiwan. Their opponent is yet to lose a game, currently sitting in the first place in the Group A. Czechs, on the other hand, are still waiting for their first win.
