Czechs finished friendly series at Tenerife with a walk-off win

The last game of the friendly series between Czech national team and Tenerife Marlins was played on Sunday. Pavel Chadim’s team showed their character and finished the game with a walk-off win.

Czechs didn’t have a good start to the game, as they got 0-5 behind Marlins in the first inning. They themselves had to wait for the first run scored till the third inning, when Marek Krejčiřík blasted a three run homerun behind the fence.

The 3-5 score remained unchanged until the sixth inning, when both teams scored. First, Marlins thanks to a homerun and a defensive error scored three runs, for Czechs to take advantage of Tenerife’s error in the following half inning by scoring three runs back. Unfortunately their opponent was able to load the bases in the following inning and thanks to a walk to Morna the score changed to 6-9 for Marlins.

But the end of the game was a completely different story. Czechs lowered the deficit to 8-9 in the eighth inning. Marlins then responded with two runs of their own after more errors and Czechs needed 3 runs to tie the game. Czech bats started the half inning well, when the first three players reached the base. Ben Morgan’s sacrificial hit manufactured the ninth run. Afterwards, Marek Krejčiřík added his second homerun and finished the game 12-11 to the Czechs. The left fielders was the best player of the game by far with 4 hits and 6 RBI.

Czech coaches played 6 pitchers. Matěj Netopilík and Mikuláš Hanuš were the best of them as they didn’t allow any runs scored.

Czechs played three games against Marlins with 2-1 record.
