Martin Schneider will undergo shoulder surgery
The injury Martin Schneider sustained during Global Baseball Games between Europe and Japan will require a surgery. The experience national team player will undergo the procedure in March and we are unlikely to see him pitching this year.
This doesn’t mean Schneider won’t play this year, or that we won’t see him on the field as a player. „I expect the operation to redo my shoulder,“ he said jokingly for our server. „But naturally, the shoulder is damaged due to long-time pitching and by the injury from Japan. So I have two or three partially torn ligaments, and there is a suspicion it could be more. It shouldn’t be career ending. If everything goes as planned, after they fix everything, I should should be able to throw without any pain, the same as before,“ he ensured the fans.
What does he think about playing this season? „The rehabilitation will be longer. I won’t be throwing this year for sure. At best I can return as a DH at the end of the season for Olomouc. Other than that I will prepare for the next season,“ Schneider revealed. His goal to play at World Baseball Classic in 2026 didn’t change. „If I feel that I have what it takes to help the team, I will keep this goal.“
We met Schneider at U9 team at Frýdek-Místek, where he went to check the performance of his son, who played his first baseball tournament. „He is quiet nervous, so I’m trying to calm him down. I think I was the same at his age. Half of my career I was quiet neurotic, until I learn to deal with it. But yes, he was looking forward to it, and I was too.“ And so it would seem that even after the career of now thirty eight year old player ends, Schneider name might not disappear from Czech fields.
