EXL: Hroši beat Tempo for the second time. However, they lost Menšík
Extraliga only had one game planned on Sunday when Hroši hosted Tempo in Brno-Jundrov.
In „Czech“ game we got to see the rising star of the previous season Tomáš Ondra, face the newcomer of the year Ondřej Vank. They started well, when no runs were scored in the first inning. However, the start of the second inning was marked by an unfortunate moment. Matěj Menšík was hit by the pitch straight to the face and after several long seconds he was taken away from the field with a bloodied towel. The first game of the season thus ended prematurely for the national team infielder.
Fans waited for the first run till the third inning when Petr Čech batted in Daniel Ondroušek. Michal Zelenka responded to Hroši lead in the following inning by a solo homerun. However, this was all Tempo managed in the offense. On the other hand, hosts increased their lead gradually. Petr Čech and Martin Červenka both blasted a two run homerun thanks to which Hroši won 10-1.
Tomáš Ondra remained on the mound for 5.2 innings where he struck out 6. The rest was pitched by John Hussey. Hosts played trio Vank-Mergans-Štěpán Dupal but none of them managed to keep a clean sheet.
Hroši finished the first week with two wins and now share the first place in the table with Nuclears and Arrows. Brno team will play three games in the following week, two against Ostrava and one against Eagles. Tempo will play two games against Nuclears.
