Jakub Malík likely to play his last complete Extraliga season this year
A long-term captain of the national team and a member of Arrows Ostrava Jakub Malík mentioned on his Instagram this will likely be his last season. But could we see the experienced player in Extraliga in the upcoming season, too?
„I told my friends and acquaintances that this will likely be my last season,“ confirmed Malík over the phone. „It is mostly due to personal reasons. There is not enough time and I’m trying to help the national team along with it. I will be 40 and I don’t want to reach the state where I won’t be fast and good enough. I don’t want to finish when I’m over the horizon. Right now I feel I have something to give to the team.„
Malík himself didn’t rule out he wouldn’t play more games in Extraliga, however. There is a chance we could see him play next year, but he won’t play for the entire season. „A really good season on my part might convince me to change my mind. If I feel good physically and mentally. Or if my family convinces me it still makes sense, I could give it another year,“ said the player, who has 22 Extraliga seasons under his belt.
Jakub Malík played his entire career for the club in Ostrava and so he is strongly bonded with it. That’s why he would help the team if they were in trouble. „If Arrows are in trouble, if there were a danger they would be demoted and I felt I could help, I wouldn’t hesitate and I would jump to rescue work,“ added the winner of three Extraliga titles.
