First League Relegation game saw 33 Ks
First League’s Relegation group started over the weekend. Four teams compete for 3 places in the Czech’s second best baseball league. And the first game between Bučovice and Kladno had a lot to offer to the fans when pitchers threw 33 strikeouts.
Bučovice started Luis Rengel, who challenged opposition’s batters when he struck out 15 batters in 9 innings. However, Miners‘ pitchers weren’t far behind and even had more Ks by the end of the game. First, Ondřej Vostatek struck out 14 out of 18 batters, for Robert Kobera to follow the suit, adding 4 more Ks.
The winner was decided in the ninth inning, where Luis Rengel, who finished the game with 159 pitches thrown, allowed a run after hitting a batter, followed by two wild pitches.
Interestingly, we only had one game since 2016 in Extraliga where there were 33 SOs. And Rengel was a part of it, too. In 2022, playing for Technika Brno, he struck out 15 batters against Arrows Ostrava. Alec Lemmon had 15 Ks, with Ondřej Satoria adding 3 more for Ostrava.
