Rožnov plays baseball again
Camel Rožnov pod Radhoštěm signed up for the regional U7 competition this year. The club attempts to revive itself and the efforts are showing their first results. A few weeks ago they opened the new field where they already played 2 tournaments. One friendly and one competitive. We got more information from Camels coach Iva Kretková.
Softball and baseball were in Rožnov before, club Camels has a forty year tradition. However, it was only senior who played in the end and we couldn’t keep the younger categories. More than that, we lost our field. It was not until the previous year when we tried to recruit new kids, more or less through school activities and we started to teach them baseball skills. We taught them how to throw and bat through different games. We also went out for a few tournaments as a part of the winter league and starting from the spring we kicked it up a notch!!
We currently have a good base for U7 and U8, who are really working hard. We added a few more players and a few weeks ago we organized the first tournament in Rožnov – after so many years the baseball is back.
We invited the team we are working with – Hroši from Brno, Kotlářka from Prague, and also new Olejáři from Hodonín.
The youngest kids – mostly U7 – had a really good tournament. They played round robin and sometimes when teams were missing players, they exchanged the shirts and headed to the field to help them out. In the end they batted and ran around, they played in the defense, every one to their best abilities and capabilities. There were a lot of beautiful defensive and offensive actions to see. Overall, we lacked nothing!
We played another friendly on Sunday and they we got to be in the finals of our regional U7 competition. In the end the medals were handed to people and everyone was beaming with happiness!
The kids from Rožnov invited their grandmas and wider families, there were a lot of people who were just curious and who just wanted to see what was happening. And we all know how addictive it can be and that they won’t just watch. It was a great weekend! It was a scorching heat, but like the kids said, right for the camels ✌️🐪😅😅😅. Parents were happy, grandmas were proud, kids were spent and coaches did their job. What else you need. Everyone left the field energized for time to come. And that’s what it is about!
Our field is currently a flat green space, but it served the purpose and we already want to call it the field. Keep the fingers crossed! Go CAMELS GO🐪
