Jakub Winkler will play for an American university
The number of Czech players balling at American universities will increase in fall. Jakub Winkler will play for Galveston College. Czech youngest announced the news on his Instagram profile.
Nineteen year old Jakub Winkler is a core player for Draci Brno and despite a low age, he already played 4 seasons in Extraliga. He has 101 in the Czech top league so far, with BA .273 and OPS .698. This earned him three titles with Draci.
In 2023, which Winkler started at high school in USA, he won the award for the best young player. In the same year he also played for the national team during the U18 World Cup in Taiwan where he led the team in number of hits and RBI.
Galveston College WhiteCaps palys in Division 1 Region 14 NJCAA. The school won the championship title in 1994, with the baseball program having the history all the way to 1967 and raising three players who got to MLB. The first one was Jose Rosado, then Keith Foulke. The most famous, however, is certainly Juan Pierre, who won World Series with Florida Marlins in 2003 and played 1994 games in MLB over 14 years.
