First League: Hluboká won the first game of the finale series
The final series of the First Czech Baseball League started on Saturday with the game between two teams, we will see in Extraliga next season.
The game was interesting from the beginning, when both teams managed to score runs in the first inning. First, it was Michal Kubina with a double, who gave Jablonec the lead. It wasn’t long before Hluboká managed to take the lead back with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The score stayed unchanged until the fifth inning, where the scoring resembled the first inning. Away team tied at 2-2 after another Kubina’s RBI double. Hluboká then pressed Jiří Hikl and the away defense. With a help of an error, home team managed to score two runs. In the following inning, Hluboká increased their lead to 2-5 after hit by David Jelínek.
However, Michal Kubina wouldn’t let Jablonec to just give up. He added two run homerun to his scoring sheet, giving his team a hope.
We had to wait till seventh inning to see a pitching change, when Lukáš Roubíček took place of Jiří Hikl. Home team welcomed the new pitcher with two hits, and after a double steal, Hluboká managed to add one more run to the tally.
Jablonec had a tough task ahead of them after Josef Novák increased Hluboká’s lead to 4-8 with a 2RBI single. With only one inning left, Jablonec batters recorded two quick outs, however, Roubíček managed to follow it up with a solo homerun. That was all we could see from the away team, and so Hluboká grabbed the lead 1-0 in the series with the 5-8 win. The series will move to northern Bohemia, where the second, and if necessary third, game will be played.
