PBW: Czechs with three wins. Saturday’s finale will see them play against Russia

On Friday, Czech national team played their third game at Prague Baseball Week against International Stars, who had no chance to play the tournament’s finale.

Before the game started, fans at Eagles Park could watch the traditional homerum derby. In the end, it was Ryan Johnson from International Stars who won the contest, outscoring Marek Chlup in the finale.

And it was Ryan Johnson, who started on the mound for International Stars against the Mike Griffin’s team. Canadian coach played Marek Minařík as the starting pitcher. But it was the International Stars who scored the first run in the 1st inning.

Czechs managed to respond with 3 runs in the following inning. They continued to slowly push further, increasing they lead to register third win in the tournament. An interesting situation occured when Marek Chlup blasted the baseball behind the fence, but the strange bounce confused the players, who kept playing. In the end, the situation was correctly judged as a homerum and Czechs grab the 8-1 lead.

Mike Griffin then substituted Marek Minařík for Jiří Vavruša and International Stars saw they had a chance to score few runs. In the last three innings, they, however, managed to score only 3 runs, which wasn’t sufficient for the win.

Czech national team win means, they will square off against Russian national team in the finale, who won against Prague Selection on Friday. Before the final match, the fans will be able to watch the games of International Stars, and Prague Selection against Czech U18. The final game is scheduled for 18:00 CEST.
