College Baseball: Martin Zelenka scored third HR on the season
College baseball continued on Sunday. Three Czechs played with Martin Zelenka being the most visible of the bunch.
NC State played a doubleheader against Virginia Tech and they lost both games. In the first one, which ended in 11-3, Vojtěch Menšík earned a BB. In the second, which was closer (7-6), he had two hits. After thirty two games, Menšík has 30 hits and BA .261.
Filip Smola entered the game for UCM in the seventh inning. He subbed in defense and didn’t get a chance to bat. UCM won 6-1 and is currently 28-4 on the season. Unfortunately, as the team keeps winning, head coach has little incentive to change the lineup and so it will be tough for Filip to get more playtime.
Pitt Community College, with Martin Zelenka is also doing well. In the Sunday game against Camp Community College, Zelenka scored his third HR and was able to increase the lead of his team to 9-2 in the sixth inning. Altogether, Czech catcher had 4 RBI, which adds up to 23 RBI on the season.
Division II NCAA, where North Greenville plays, finished its regular season. Marek Chlup still has games to play, however, as NGU will play in a tournament that will determine Conference Carolinas champion. North Greenville is #2 seed and will have a bye week in the first round. In the second week they should play against the better from Barton College and SWU. NGU next game will be played on Thursday. The tournament is played with double elimination system, so in case of a loss, NGU should be able to continue in the loser bracket. You can see it here.
