EXL: Daniel Vavruša ended his career

The newest member of Czech homerun club and a long-term core member of Kotlářka Praha and Czech national team Daniel Vavruša retired from baseball. Club and the player announced it on the social networks and club webpage.

Daniel Vavruša played for Kotlářka since 2011, where he moved from SaBaT Praha, where he grew up as a baseballer. At the beginning of his career he caught interest of New York Yankees scouts who offered him a contract. The chance to make his mark on the organization was, however, cut short due to shoulder injury that he talked openly about in project Bez frází.

Only twenty-nine year old player probably won’t play another game in Extraliga, where he so far played 276 matches. In Vavruša, Czech baseball will loose another prominent name, and a player who ends his career relatively soon. His numbers still show he was an important player for his team. In the regular season his BA is .354 in 190 games. Beside joining Homerun club, he also earned Extraliga title with Kotlářka in 2015.

Why did he decide to retire? „Baseball has always been a fun for me, and something I always took seriously and put a lot of effort into. Everyone, who knows me, know that I like to smile, that I’m someone who wanted to enjoy playing baseball, but when I played, I put everything into it. That was also one of the reasons why I decided not to continue. Because it was not possible for me to play baseball halfheartedly, without trainings, it wasn’t something I could imagine myself doing and something I could enjoy as much as before. I know it was similar past couple of years, it was tough for me to make the trainings and I sometimes arrived an hour late. I couldn’t imagine carrying on like this, “ explained Dan for club webpage. Maybe he will change his mind one day and return to Extraliga.
