College Baseball: Pitt with Zelenka lost finale. Smola in the starting lineup for the first time
After a week we bring you review of Czech players in college baseball.
The beginning of the week brought the finale of South Atlantic District Championship, where Pitt Community College with Martin Zelenka, played against Patrick Henry Community College. Pitt lost 4-5 (Zelenka was 2-for-4), but, as their opponent got into the finals from the looser bracket, the game on Tuesday was to decide the winner. And the second game was dramatic, leading to extra innings. We had to wait till 12th inning for any team to score a run. It was Patrick Henry Community College that took 8-6 lead. Pitt was not able to respond and so Zelenka’s opponents celebrated the win. Czech himself didn’t add any hits.
NC State played last three games of the regular seasons against Florida State, which was also the direct matchup for the second place in the Atlantic division. NC State came on top after winning two games. They only lost the last game, after it was certain they would end up second. Ironically, this was also the game, where Vojtěch Menšík played the best, after he recorded 2 hits and a BB.

Daniel Padyšák also played the last week for Charleston Southern. He started on the mound on Thursday against Longwood. Czech pitched well again, after he only allowed 2 runs in 6 innings. In the seventh inning he allowed 3 players on bases, who scored. In the end CSU won 10-8 and Padyšák got another win on the season. He finished it with 4-5 and 5.17 ERA.

For the first time this season, we could see Filip Smola in the starting lineup for UCW. It happened in the last game of the regular seasons against Wright State University. Czech started on the second base and earned a BB. His team lost 3-12. UCW will continue playing in Atlantic Regional tournament as a seed #5, playing their first game against Bloomsburg on Thursday.

After a longer break, Marek Chlup will also play on Thursday. North Greenville University will play NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Baseball Tournament Central. The tournament is played with winner-looser bracket system.
