EXL: One-hitter for Novák. Tempo surprised Draci

Those watching Friday Extraliga games had seen a lot of interesting moments. There were pitching performances, long hits and nice defense.

If you are a fan of pitching, the duel between Blansko and Hluboká had you covered. Jan Novák from Hluboká, and home Luis Rengel dominated the game and we could only see one run scored. It came after a balk of the home starter in the fifth inning. Home batters tried to find a way to hit Jan Novák’s pitches, but Czech continues in great peformance as he threw eight innings without a run allowed. He only allowed one hit and had 17 SO, which ranks him in third place in number of SO in a single game, while being the first among Czech pitchers. Both starters and their substitutions in Martin Macháček and Václav Tauš had 31 SO together, which is the most SO in a game in past few years.

Two Czech nationals started in the game at MBS in Brno. And it was Marek Minařík who could be happier, as he ended with a complete game win. He allowed Draci, who played in pink jerseys to celebrate Mothers’ Day, only two runs. Tempo could rely on the batters in the top half of the lineup. David Vohánka, Marek Minařík, Phil Steering and Jake Rabinowitz had the majority of the Tempo hits. Thanks to that they could celebrate an important win against reigning champions.

The game in Eagles Park promised an interesting matchup between two Prague teams. In the end, it really was a rather unusual duel. Despite outhitting Eagles, 14-7, it was the home that could celebrate at the end. Kotlářka made 6 errors and that helped Eagles to gain a momentum. Home team managed to score 5 runs in the sixth inning, three of which were due to a wild pitch by Josef Cihlář. Home team won 11-7 in the first game of the series, which means they are still in the first place in Extraliga standings. The question is whether Tomáš Duffek will be able to play, as he couldn’t start on Friday due to increased temeprature.

Before the game in Ostrava started, the home team had to deal with a quick rain. But it didn’t seem to matter to them, as they entered the game agressively and were winning 9-0 after two innings. Radek Burian was able to slow them down, after he substituted Jablonec starting pitcher Filip Šafařík. A two run homerun by Matěj Menšík was a proverbial nail in the coffin, as it meant Arrows had 8-0 lead. Jablonec tried to fight back, but every time there was a spark of hope for them, the home defense played a double play. Visitors had to wait for their first run till fifth inning, when Jan Výbora scored a two run homerun. If Blesk fans hoped for a rally, their hopes vanished when Arrows scored four runs in the next half inning. Starter Ondřej Satoria and his substitute Martin Kubovčík didn’t allow more runs and home team could celebrate a dominant win.
