SBL: Crows Košice have their first win

Slovak Baseball League continued with four games over the weekend. Interestingly, none of the games were played for more than five innings, as they were all finished early, either due to score difference, or the weather.

Crows Košice played their first game in Slovakia’s top baseball league, when they squared off against Trnava. Unfortunately eastern Slovaks didn’t have a good start to SBL. Trnava started the game aggressively, building up a lead in the first inning. On the other hand, Crows were only able to get one hit, after Max Martin contact in the second inning.

Skalica played their second game in SBL against Apollo again. This time, it was against B team, however, young Outmen team was unable to find a way against their opponent and once again, they lost by a huge margin. Furthermore, they were not able to get a hit in the game. The game itself only lasted five innings. Apollo added 11 hits and 18 runs. Tomáš Lincmaier was 3-for-3, while his teammate Matej Chudej had 5 RBI and was 2-for3.

Third game played on Saturday was a duel between Apollo A and Maceitos Jelka. The reigning champion from Bratislava could celebrate another dominant win, after they scored 27 runs. Alexander Václavík (4-for-5) and Michal Ešmír (4-for-5) had the most runs for their team. Matej Rudohradský earned 6 RBI. Playing coach for Apollo, Jakub Horáček, also had his first HR in SBL.

The last game of the playing week was played on Sunday, when Crows Košice played against Apollo Bratislava B. While the pitch itself wasn’t in a good condition, this didn’t seem to matter to the visitors. Oliver Pentek dominated on the mound, as he didn’t allow a hit to the home team. Unfortunately, as the game only lasted five innings, Pentek doesn’t have a recognized no-hitter (we here at MB require at least 7 innings to be pitched – author’s note). Košice batter came well prepared and they scored 8 runs against Apollo B, which was enough for a win. This was also the first win in SBL for Crows. In the top flight of the baseball, this is also the first win for team from Košice in the past five years. The least team to win was Seals Košice, when they beat Bratislava team Brick Field Boys 9-1 on 15th May 2016.
