Champions Cup: Arrows beat Heidenheim finishing fifth

Arrows played an important game against Heidenheim on Friday. The win would earn them split fifth place, giving Czech Republic spot in Champions Cup 2022.

Ostrava determination was palpable since the beginning of the game, when Tyler Smith blasted a triple and was consequently scored in by Petr Čech for the first run. Arrows Park could celebrate further in the third inning, when Michael Vykoukal scored in two more runs with a double.

Boris Bokaj kept his opponents scoreless for a long time. It was only in the fifth inning when Lou Helmig’s solo homerun saw them score first Heidenheim run. Arrows weren’t detoured, however, and they sent Ondřej Satoria in for the sixth inning.

In the eight inning, Germans substituted starter Luke Sommer, which played in Arrows favor. Ostrava scored a three run homerun from Brett Holtz’s bat and two run homerun from Jakub Voják they increased their lead to 8-1. Heidenheim responded with only one run in the bottom half of the inning.

Arrows solidified their lead with two more runs in the ninth inning. Ondřej Satoria then didn’t have problem to control German batters and give his team the win.

After 11-3 win, Arrows finished at shared fifth place in Champions Cup. They improved their position by two places from 2019 year. This also means that we won’t see Ostrava play on Saturday.
