Czechs know their opponents for U23 World Championship
On Friday, World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced the groups for 2021 U23 World Championship. The tournament will be played from 23.9. till 2.10. in Mexico.
Czech team will play in Group A, which will play its games in Ciudad Obregon. Vladimír Chlup’s team will have a tough road ahead of them as they will play against Mexico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Germany and Taiwan. First three teams from each group will advance to Super Round. Remaining three teams will play placement games.
This is only the third time in the history that World Championship is being played in U23 category and Czechs didn’t miss any of the tournaments so far. In 2016, when the tournament was played in Mexico, they finished on 10th place. Two years later, in Venezuela, they were only able to win one game from eight they played, after they beat Netherlands. This meant they finished in the last, 12th, place. Mexico will attempt to defend their World Champion title. Unfortunately, some of the top countries, based on WBSC ranking, in Japan and USA won’t participate in the tournament.
Czech team will play European championship, which starts on 24th of August in Italy, before traveling to Mexico.
