U23 European Championship: Czechs beat Belgium to finish at the fifth place
The last game U23 European Championship awaited Czech team on Saturday. They were to face Belgium and the win would mean, Czechs would finish fifth.
Czech team entered the game well, when Jakub Kubica and Jan Pospíšil walked. After Marek Chlup’s and Ondřej Kalandra’s hits, they were ahead 2-0. In the following inning, Czechs scored five runs, increasing their lead to 7-0.
Filip Čapka could play his game calmly. Nevertheless, Belgium scored the first run in the bottom of the second inning, after taking advantage of a defensive error.
In the following innings, it was Czech team who increased their lead however. When the score difference stood at 11 runs after five innings, the game ended early on mercy rule. Despite the unfortunate start to the tournament, Czechs managed to find their offensive power in later stages and the win meant they finished at fifth place.
