EXL U21: Draci Brno defended the title
U21 Extraliga has crowned its champion. Draci Brno managed to win the game at home and defeat the rival from Jundrov to take the 3-1 win in the series.
The series was leveled at 1-1 after first two games, and it was certain there would be at least two more games played. The third game turned out to be rather important, giving the winner a mental edge. Hroši were leading the game 1-0 after the first inning, when Tomáš Říčný batted in Dan Ondroušek. Draci had to wait till the third inning to score against Boris Večerka, where Lukáš Malý scored a two run homerun. Adam Prudil added another RBI after a sacrificial fly out. Hroši took the lead back in the bottom half of the inning, after Draci error with two outs. An inning later, they were winning 5-3.
Even this wasn’t enough for the home team to keep the win. Draci took advantage of pitcher substitution in the fifth inning and with three runs, they took the lead. Furthermore, Jan Nebenführ didn’t allow any runs to his opponent for two remaining innings and so Draci won the game 6-5 and took the 2-1 lead in the series.
Hroši needed to win on Saturday to keep the series alive. They scored two runs in the first inning, but the lead didn’t last long. In the bottom half of the inning, Lukáš Malý a Martin Pernička scored runs after defensive errors, only to see Milan Prokop add two run homerun few moments later. Hroši leveled the score an inning later, but Draci were back on top in the following half inning, adding three runs. And it was the lead home team wouldn’t lose for the rest of the game. When Richard Schmied caught a high fly ball from Dan Ondroušek in the seventh inning, Draci could celebrate the series and the league win.
