TWBL: We know four teams that will compete for the title
The second season of Taiwan Women Baseball League (TWBL) finished its regular season. We had to wait till the last week to know the four teams that would get a chance to compete for the league’s title. This year we will see a combination the founding teams and the newcomers.
The league, which was divided to northern and central division this year, due to a number of teams competing, offered an interesting amateur baseball. In the last game of the regular season university team NTU beat the newcomer from Norna 10:2 in the game, where neither of the team had a chance to advance to the semifinals. It were, however, the games played before them, between the current champions from High Match and newcomer from Hong Liang, as well as the game between Sunday and Vanguard, that had more at stake. After High Match won 10:2 over Hong Liang, the two teams from the northern division were clear. Despite Sunday winning 9:2, High Match, Hong Liang and Sunday all head five wins and a loss. The worse score then decided that Sunday, who finished second in 2020 regular season, would have to stay behind the gates of the semifinals this year.
Central division played its last regular season games a week before. First semifinalist was clear, as Nantou reigned at the first place with six wins. The second semifinalist was to be decided between Anytime Fitness and the newcomer Lightning. Both teams had two games to play. Anytime Fitness didn’t start well against a tough opponent from Nantou as they lost their game 3:21. On the other hand, Lightning beat Kapok, the last team in the division, by one run 9:8. However, they lost their second game against Kapok 10:12, which gave Kapok their first win on the season. Anytime Fitness needed to win to be level with their opponents. In the game against Sunflower they did just that, winning 13:12 and they finished with three wins and three losses, the same score as Lightning. The run difference then decided the second semifinalist from the central division would be Anytime Fitness.
The league continues on 8th and 9th of January with the placement games, where the teams who didn’t make semifinals will play. The semifinals will then be played on 15th of January when Nantou play Hong Liang and High Match will face Anytime Fitness.
