EXL: Pitcher Orlando Romero arrives to Třebíč
Extraliga team Třebíč Nuclears brought another foreigner to their roster. This time it’s Venezuelan pitcher Orlando Enrique Romero.
Twenty-six year old Venezuelan had been a part of Tampa Bay Rays organization for a long time. He signed with the team when he was 17 and he been through their system from Gulf Coast League in 2014 to High-A in 2019. Afterwards, Rays didn’t resign him and so Romero has 119.2 IP with 4.42 ERA and 191 SO in MiLB. Throughout the years he switched from starting pitcher to reliever.
After finishing with Rays organization, Romero returned to Venezuela where he played for Bravos de Margarita in 2020/21 season. There he only threw 3.2 innings, allowing 3 runs. He now can restart his career in the Czech top league. His curveball should be his best pitch, followed by a solid fastball. The reports from over the seas claim he tend to have a little of location problem with his pitches, however. We will have to wait and see how life in Třebíč treats him.
