EXL: Arrows troubles continue. Hroši broke the series
Only two games in Prague were not played on Sunday. In the remaining two the main focus was to see whether Hroši and Arrows could break their loosing streak. And only Brno team was successful.
Hroši Brno – Sokol Hluboká 8-4
Hroši got a chance to break their six game loosing streak. Surprisingly, they started their closer Kellen Croce, who was yet to start a game in Extraliga. But based on how he played, it was difficult to tell it was not a role he is familiar with. Croce threw 5 innings, only allowing 1 run and striking out 9 batters.
On the other hand William Parsons is not having his best season, which was seen on Sunday as well. Australian pitcher threw the same number of innings as Croce, however, he allowed 6 runs. The remainder of the game was then thrown by Štěpán Havlíček and Raymond Whitehead. The visiting pitcher took advantage of his experience, when he only allowed one run. Home youngster on the mound was under constant pressure, but visitors were unable to turn it into runs and never came close to winning the game.
Hroši were helped by their leadoff hitter Dan Ondroušek who went 4-for-4 and had 3 runs. Tyler Smith also added 3 hits, but even see he’s below his offensive performance from the previous year, when he played for Arrows Ostrava. With the win, Hroši stopped their fall in the table.
Třebíč Nuclears – Arrows Ostrava 7-2
After losing two games against Nuclears, Arrows had a chance to save their face and win at least one game of the series. But the task ahead of them wouldn’t be easy, as Třebíč had Orlando Romero ready on the mound. Arrows started well, scoring the first run in the first inning after a hit from Jakup Grepl. The lead, however, didn’t stay long with the reigning champions. Home team entered the bottom half of the inning against Ondřej Satoria with two doubles, and took the lead with two runs. The score remained unchanged until the fourth inning. In it Třebíč scored three more runs.
Orlando Romero only allowed the first run in the sixth inning. However, he got himself in trouble an inning later, when visitors loaded the bases with one out. Furthermore, home starter was closing on 100 pitches. But he managed to get hold of the situation and didn’t allow Arrows another run. Jeffrey Barto then closed the game for Nuclears, and, with help of 4 SO, he made a quick work out of it.
