Apollo will attempt to win a spot in Federations Cup
The first of three qualification groups for Federations Cup started on Monday in Serbian Beograd. And it’s Serbia where Slovak champion Apollo Bratislava attempts to win a spot in Federations Cup.
Apollo will have tough games ahead of them, when they play against Budapest (Hungary), Kaunas (Lithuania), Barons Wroclaw (Poland), and Vojvodina (Serbia). Only the winner will be promoted to Federations Cup. Bratislava team is familiar with Budapest and Vojvodina against whom they play in European Interleague. And so far Apollo took one win and one loss in the doubleheaders against both.
However, Bratislava will have a weakened team in the qualifications. „We always have the highest goals,“ admitted Apollo’s manager Martin Brunegraf. „Despite a trio of players missing due to injury or illness. Probably the biggest problem is the loss of American pitcher Cameron Young, who broke his hand in the Interleague game and travelled home after the surgery. I am also not very likely to play, since I’ve been having a left shoulder injury for over a month. Despite this, we are ready to battle for the best results.“
Apollo currently dominates Slovak Extraliga, where they got into TOP 4 without losing a single game. They also managed to get into Final Four in European Interleague, that will be played at the end of August. Before that, they have to go through the qualification.
