PBW: Czechs narrowly lost to Spain in a rainy lottery

The game for the first place in Group A between Czech Republic and Spain was affected by weather. It started an hour early than planned, but in the end, it had to be wrapped up early anyway. Homerun Derby was cancelled for the same reason.

Czechs started aggressively against 18 time medalists from European Championships, after Martin Červenka gave them a lead with a successful hit. However, Spain responded in the following half inning and they tied the game.

Since then it was a pitching duel, where Jeffrey Barto had a very good day on the Czech mound. He only allowed one run in the first five innings. Spaniard Jorge Babloa didn’t remain on the mound the full five innings in the end. Batters pressured him in the bottom half of the fifth inning and they were able to reach the bases. Spaniards substituted their pitcher and so Czechs only managed to get a run out of it.

Spain punished Czechs in the following inning, after Lesther Galván scored a two run homerun and gave him team the lead. But this didn’t need to last long. Czechs pushed in the bottom half of the inning and loaded the bases. Unfortunately, they were unable to get the tying run.

This show to be the key, as storm ran through Prague field in the seventh inning and the game had to be stopped at 3-2 for Spain.

Czechs finished second in Group A and will play against one of the tournament favorites in Hakusoh Globetrotter on Saturday at 10:30. The remaining games are then planned at 16:00 and 18:30.
