CBC: Třebíč advanced over Draci. Eagles and Arrows will play in semifinals
Sunday games of Czech Baseball Cup determined three teams to advance to the semifinals this year. Draci, who were beaten by Nuclears, didn’t advance this year.
Draci Brno – Třebíč Nuclears 0-1
Series: 0-2
After losing on Saturday, Draci had no other option but to win, if they wanted to advance further this year. However, Brno team couldn’t find their batting prowess once again. Třebíč started Petr Tretra, who only allowed 2 hits and no runs to Draci in 5 innings. He was then substituted by Jeffrey Barto in the sixth inning and the game was closed by Ryan Johnson. Both foreign pitchers kept Draci scoreless. Třebíč thus only needed one run to get the win, which came in the fourth inning from Kamil Pejchal. Nuclears were able to beat Draci and advance to the semifinals, where they face another Extraliga finalist Hroši Brno.
Eagles Praha – Tempo Praha 8-1
Series: 2-0
Prague derby was to determine who will represent the capital in the semifinals. After Saturday, Eagles were one step closer than their opponent. Furthermore they had Tomáš Duffek ready on the mound. Left-handed national team pitcher showed an excellent performance when threw a complete game. Tempo only scored one run against him, curtesy of Marek Minařík’s solo homerun in the first inning.
Ondřej Vank, on Tempo mound, defied Eagles for only one inning. In the second inning Eagles got the entire lineup in the game, scoring 4 runs. This gave them a solid lead they didn’t let go off till the end. Home team thus won the second game of the series and moved to the semifinals.
Arrows Ostrava – Technika Brno 15-7
Series: 2-0
Technika Brno entered the second game of the series well, as they scored 4 runs in the first inning. However, their offensive machine was then halted thanks to Alexandr Šín, who didn’t allow any more runs in the next 4 innings. On the other hand, Arrows started to chip away the score deficit and were only 1 run from tying the game at the end of the fourth inning. The utter disaster for Brno team came in the bottom of the fifth inning, where home team scored 6 runs and got the lead. Technika was able to correct the score with 3 runs of their own, however, Arrows scored 5 more in the seventh inning. Ostrava thus got their second win of the series and advanced to the semifinals. There they face Eagles Praha.
