WBCq: Czechs beast Germany, they only need one win to get to World Baseball Classic
Every game in World Baseball Classic qualification is important for Czechs as any lose would mean elimination. The same went for the game against Germany, who were the next opponent to beat for Pavel Chadim’s team.
However, the start of wasn’t positive. Germans took the lead in the first inning, after William Germaine blasted a three run homerun. Fortunately national team was able to respond quickly and they tied the game after homeruns from Petr Zýma and Martin Červenka.
Czechs took the lead at the bottom of the third inning, after Martin Mužík got hit by a pitch with bases loaded. Germany substituted pitching, but new pitcher was welcomed by a hit from Arnošt Dubový which meant two more runs scored.
Germans pressed Daniel Padyšák in the following half inning, who was now coming close to pitching limit. With one out and bases loaded, Michal Kovala took over. Czechs were close to keeping the inning scoreless, but Germans were able to score a run after a throwing error from Martin Červenka.
Kovala continued with excellent pitching for two innings. Furthermore, Martin Červenka added his second homerun of the game, giving Czech 8-4 cushion.
Kovala brought important outs to give Czechs the second win of the tournament. They will now play against Spain to determine who will be the second team qualified for WBC.
