First League: Schneider: I want to get Skokani back to Extraliga
The second best Czech baseball league starts along with Extraliga in the upcoming week. And similar to top flight teams, First League clubs also strengthen to get the best out of the season. This is no different in Olomouc, where Czech national team player Martin Schneider should play once again. And he admitted in an interview for radio station Český Rozhlas that his goal is to get Olomouc back to Extraliga.
Martin Schneider started to play baseball in Olomouc. Since 1998 he played for Draci, where he won 11 titles. However, thirty seven year old player wanted to finish his playing days with Skokani. “One of the reasons I returned was to give back to Olomouc team, who helped to start my career. Along with Jakub Voják we try to develop youngster teams,” he said for Český Rozhlas.
One of the best utility players to ever come from Czech baseball revealed his goal is to win European Championship this year. But he’s also a part of an ambitious team in Olomouc. “It will be my third season back in Olomouc. I returned to help Olomouc get back to Extraliga, because they deserve to be Extraliga team. We will do everything to get them back. I hope it will be this year,” he added in the interview.
Look at Skokani roster is an interesting one. We can find plenty of experienced players and former national team players, such as Přemek Chroust, Adam Hajtmar, Jakub Voják. They are supplemented by young talents such as Josef Saad Abdelmeguid or Filip Nevrla. On the other hand, fight in First League should be somewhat harder than it was in 2022 this year.
