Will Eva Ventrubová be the first woman to play with men?
First League team Pelikans Bučovice added Czech Women’s National Team player Eva Ventrubová onto their roster for 2023 season. She could thus become the first woman to play in one of the two best Czech baseball leagues.
Bučovice still wait for ČBA to give the player an exception. As was confirmed by Bučovice manager Ondřej Vykoukal, they are yet to get a response from ČBA. Based on the current rules, in order for Ventrubová to play she first needs a confirmation from medical committee. Hopefully, the team will get their response by 1st of April, when First League starts.
While Eva Ventrubová is a utility player, she mainly plays the infield, but she can also pitch. “We didn’t try her as a pitcher yet,” admitted manager Vykoukal. “She can play infield without an issue, especially on the second base. Skill-wise she’s doing really well, so she will strengthen the team.”
Beside skills, South Moravian manager also praises her energy. “You can see she wants to play. She wants to play every ball, she brings a completely different hype. It’s clear she enjoys the game, which is something I don’t see with some of our players. I hope she can infect them a little,” added Ondřej Vykoukal.
We can only hope that ČBA will give the exception soon and we will be able to see how Czech national team player fares in the second best Czech league. She already trained regularly with men’s team such as Technika Brno, or Bučovice as she was preparing for European Championship, where Czechs finished second.
