EXL: Ostrava out of TOP 6. Draci moved to 1st place
Sunday games determined six teams that advanced to TOP 6. The rest of the games will only determine the final standings.
Tempo Praha – Arrows Ostrava 10-5
Probably the most important of Sunday games was played between Tempo and Arrows. Ostrava could extend their hopes for TOP 6, provided they could win it. Otherwise, their hopes would vanish. Arrows started the game well, as their first two batters blasted a homerun. Radim Novotný then scored in the third run. Tempo, however, managed to tied the game in the bottom half of the inning.
The second inning went in a similar manner, as both teams scored a run. The change came in the fourth inning, when returnee Martin Zelenka gave Tempo 6-4 lead with his second homerun of the game. Arrows only responded with a solo homerun from Jan Kozel, which wasn’t enough to get them a win. Prague added 4 more runs in the second half of the game, sweeping Arrows.
After the loss Ostrava’s hopes for title race vanished. Arrows will miss TOP 6 for the first time since 2010. With the sixth win in the row, Tempo ensured their chances to fight for the title.
Hroši Brno – Třebíč Nuclears 0-6
Both teams sent in young Czech talents for the last game of the series. It was Lukáš Smejkal who came on top, as he only allowed 3 hits in 5 innings to Hroši. Home Marek Štefka was only able to oppose Třebíč for one inning. The second saw Nuclears score 4 runs snatching the lead.
Hroši made 5 errors in total, even though the bad weather could be partially blamed. The weather was also behind the game being prematurely finished in the sixth inning. Třebíč beat Hroši for the second time in the series and moved to the second place in Extraliga table.
Eagles Praha – Draci Brno 3-9
The last duel of the series saw David stand against Goliath when Draci started Juan Jaime who has MLB experience. Young Vasko Kolev was tasked with facing him. The duel went as expected, when Jaime allowed 2 runs in 6 innings, striking out 9 batters. Koleve remained on the mound till the 5th inning, allowing 7 runs.
Filip Moštěk continues to have a good streak for Draci, adding 3 hits, he currently holds BA .410. Martin Kalábek added 5th homerun of the season, moving to the second place behind Martin Červenka.
