Draci beat Rouen in an important game at Champions Cup
Draci Brno played an important game on Friday. Facing the other team without a win, they needed to beat their opponent to keep a spot for Czech Republic for the upcoming Champions Cup.
Draci didn’t take chances and they built a solid lead from the very beginning. Jakub Hajtmar and Andres Angulo batted in two runs in the first inning. In the third Filip Moštěk batted in another, for Arnošt Dubový to add another two with his double and Draci were leading 5-0.
Brno team also had Jhenderson Hurtado who just doesn’t seem to be able to allow any runs this year. Rouen scored one run against him but even that was scored due to a defensive error.
David Mergans was then sent in for the fifth inning and he was doing even better. He only allowed one hit for the remainder of the game, but he still kept his opponents without a run. For this reason he left the game with a win.
After winning 6-1 Draci added the second win on the tournament, their first that counts in the relegation group. Thanks to this they got closer to their goal of not finishing the last. To ensure this position they will need to beat Arrows Ostrava on Saturday. Were they to lose Paderborn’s win might just save them,
EDIT: Looking at the current table it seems that Draci will finish 7th at worst. This would mean Czech Republic will have two spots for the upcoming Champions Cup.
