FC: Apollo lost their last game at the tournament
Apollo Bratislava played their last game at this year’s Federations Cup on Friday. This time against Belgian team Deurne Spartans.
The game itself started a bit later than planned as the previous game went to extra innings. This turned out to be vital as the game between Apollo and Spartans had to be finished early due to weather concerns.
Apollo didn’t have a good start to the game, as Spartans scored three runs against them in the first inning. Bratislava didn’t give up against a strong opponent and they started to slowly climb up. Everything started thanks to a solo homerun from Matej Rudohradský in the second inning. Alexander Václavík opened the fourth inning with a triple, only to reach the home base and score the second run a moment later. Bratislava tied the game in the fifth inning after a balk.
However, in the sixth inning Spartans managed to get the lead again when Angel Rosario scored their fourth run. And it was an important run, as referees finished the game moments later due to rain. Protests from Apollo managed went to naught.
Slovak champion lost the fourth game in the home environment and will finish the last in the standings. This also means Slovakia won’t have a spot in 2024 Federations Cup.
