Czechs finished the preparation for EC with a win against Italy
Czech national team played their last friendly game before the European Championship on Friday. They faced a strong Italian team again, although both teams agreed the game will only be played for 7 innings.
Czechs entered the game well, when Jakub Kubica and Eric Sogard both earned a hit. Marek Chlup then gave the national team the lead.
Czech pitchers practically didn’t allow Italy anything in the first four innings. Trio Filip Čapka, Jan Tomek, and Tomáš Duffek only allowed one hit and they didn’t walk anyone.
Home team striked again in the fifth inning. First, Matěj Menšík hit a triple and earned 2 RBI, for Willie Escala to hit a 2 run homerun. Thanks to this Pavel Chadim’s team improved their lead to 5-0.
Italy scored for the first time in the bottom half of the inning. Robel Garcia lowered their deficit with a 2 run homerun in the sixth inning. But it was all Italy showed, as David Mergans closed the seventh inning without a run allowed.
Czechs finished the preparation for European Championship with a win and will play their first game of the tournament against Austria on Sunday.
