Eric Sogard: “Fans are incredible…they give us energy…”
Fans could watch Eric Sogard in the best baseball league MLB for a long time. After his retirement, he now takes on Czech jersey to play for the country at European Championship. Despite everything, he was a part of the team that was beaten by Spain on Tuesday. But the ever positive player took the loss with a hindsight.
Eric, it was a loss against a tough team.
What happened, happened. They had a good team. They wanted to return us the loss in WBCq and took an early lead and their pitchers closed up. We fought for the whole game and we hope we get the chance to face them in the following stages.
You are one of the most experienced players on the team. What do you say to your teammates after the game?
It’s important to let it go and focus on the next game. These guys wanted to win. Sometimes a good team trying to win improves their level of the game. But this team shows a good working ethic every day. We will return back to the focusing. And we hope we get to face them (Spain) again and it will be a good game.
Wednesday is a free day. I know you are here with your family. How do you plan to spend the day?
Just relaxing. Let the body get some rest and enjoy the fun with the kids. Then I return on the field on Thursday.
How do you like the Czech Republic so far?
I love it here. It’s incredible. It’s nice to see new things, travel to different cities. It’s absolutely amazing.
What do you think about the fans? There was over 6000 fans over three days in Ostrava.
Fans are incredible. Their energy is amazing. Even when we were losing, they still cheered us up loudly. They did a great work and gave us energy we needed.
