Apollo Bratislava won their 10th title in a row
Slovak Baseball League has a new champion. Apollo Bratislava won their 10th title in a row after beating Angels Trnava U23 3-0 in the series.
Bratislava set on the defense well after they beat Trnava „B“ 17-0 and 13-1 in the previous week. They could thus celebrate the title on Saturday in front of their own fans. However, the game didn’t start well for them, as Angels didn’t want to give up without a fight. Trnava was leading 6-0 in the second inning. Bratislava substituted their pitcher and Juraj Bartók came in for James Kontur. Since then the hosts started to gain ground.
Apollo pressured in the offense in the third and fourth innings, and thanks several errors they took 8-6 lead. They didn’t allow Trnava to make the game more dramatic and instead they increased their lead. In the end, the game finished in the eighth inning with a walk-off from James Kontur.
„We didn’t allow anything to Trnava for the first two innings. Great performance from the starter, good batting, great defense. It was all in our hands. Today we got a weaker start from Kontur, but Ďuri Bartók stepped in well and he stopped Trnava’s offense. We then started to work harder in the offense and we once again came from behind and managed the game,“ said Apollo manager Martin Brunegraf.
Juraj Bartók won the MVP after the series. He threw 7 innings and only allowed one run.
Apollo won their 12th title in the league. Angels Trnava currently have one more, but they also have 17 silver medals.
