First League format for 2024 was revealed
A few days after the announcement of 2024 Extraliga format we got to see the format for First League, too. It is now clear the league will not merge with U21 Extraliga as was first suggested.
The second best league will be played with 8 teams. This would mean, we wouldn’t see Bučovice, who finished last in the fight for First League spot and instead we get to see the premier of Kladno.
As far as the format itself, it remains unchanged and each team will play 14 games – two against each opponent. The first six team will then take part in Promotion League. Each team will play 20 games in this league and the first two teams will get to play for a spot in the Czech top baseball league. The third through sixth team will have a chance to play in U23 Extraliga. If the team won’t have enough players for the age category, their season will most likely end.
Based on the article from baseball.cz, we should get to see Bučovice and Choceň, along with the two bottom teams from First League to fight it off for a spot in First League for 2025 season. Association is also aware of an interest of other clubs.
Look at First League schedule reveals that the first two teams will get to play more games than some Extraliga clubs.
