EXL: Hroši signed Slovak national team player Martin Gieci
The first international signing for 2024 season was announced by Hroši Brno. Slovak Martin Gieci should wear their colors in the upcoming Extraliga season.
Soon to be twenty one year old Martin Gieci played in Brno in the previous season, when he was part of Hroši second team Hippos Brno. He threw 21.1 innings with ERA 5.91 in the regular season. He then added 30.2 IP with ERA 3.82 in the Promotion League. His best game came on 8th of July against Miners Kladno, where he only allowed 3 hits in 6 innings against the new addition to First League. Beside this he also added 18 innings in Slovak league for Apollo Bratislava, where he had ERA 1.50.
Czech fans may remember Gieci from the 2021 European Championship game against the Czech Republic, where he was able to keep Slovaks in the game after allowing only 5 hits and 4 runs (3 ER) in 5 innings. It was only after he was substituted when Czech team managed to get better of the opponent and win 13-3.
Gieci is also a good batter, as he kept BA at .292 in First League and .263 in Promotion League. Hroši announced he should, however, be used mainly as a pitcher, so it would seem he won’t get many chances in the offense in the next year.
