EXL: Hluboká returned to Extraliga with a win. Blesk tested Draci

Friday finally brought the beginning of the baseball Extraliga. First three games of the new season were played, but only in one of them it was the home team that took the win.

Single, single, double, single, triple – that’s how Hroši entered the season. Team from Brno built 5-0 lead in Blansko in the first inning. Lukáš Hlouch earned his first win in the first game he played for Hroši, when he only allowed a run in five innings and even that was due to a defensive error. American Kellen Kroce earned 4 H in 5 AB in his first game in Extraliga.

The second Brno team had much more trouble, when it was losing to the newcomer from Jablonec until the sixth inning. Jablonec scored in the fourth inning after the sacrificial hit by Matyáš Fous with bases loaded.

The game itself was dominated by the two starters for a long time. Home pitcher Radim Chroust and away pitcher Jiří Hikl both showed excellent performance. Draci pushed in the sixth inning and force Hikl away from the mound. In the same inning they turned the score to thier advantage with two runs. Young David Mergans took over Chroust in the last three innings and he didn’t allow any run to the visitors. Current Extraliga champions entered the season with a narrow 2-1 win.

Game of Hluboká vs. Eagles promised even more interesting pitching duel, where Jan Novák faced Tomáš Duffek. Novák came to Eagles playing dor Hluboká for the first time and in the end he threw six solid innings, where he only allowed 2H and earned 12 SO. Duffek also kept up with 8.0 IP with 8 H and 2 R. The runs came in the fourth inning after RBI from Martin Mužík and Martin Macháček.

Eagles tried to level the score, but they were only able to get one run, even when they were able to load the bases with one out against Wesley Roemer in the eight inning. In the end neither Robert Nelson, nor Michal Zýma were able to run home. It was Petr Zýma who scored the last run in the game for Eagles. The game ended after Roemer striked out two batters and sealed the win for Hluboká.

Extra: Tomáš Duffek threw 5 SO in the game, leveling the fifth place in the historical tables, for strikeouts in regular season and playoff. He now shares the spot with Marek Červenka.
