EXL: SaBaT with a new head coach after the return to Extraliga
SaBaT Praha returns to Extraliga in 2025 season and with it came a change on the head coach spot, after they signed American Ben Currie. Club confirmed the news on their social pages.
Thirty two year old Currie has an interesting baseball resume, where he pitched for Wingate University in USA. That’s where his leadership was on the full displayed as he was team’s captain for two seasons. He was picked as the conference Pitcher of the Week six time and he also won South Atlantic Conference championship in 2014.
He coached the same school till 2021. In the first year of the his term, as an assistant coach, he won NCAA DII title. In the previous year he moved to Europe, where he led French Valenciennes in the second division, leading them to the runner-up place.
More importantly, Currie is familiar with the Czech Republic. His wife is of Czech and Italian heritage. On his LinkedIn page he describes his position in the Prague team as follows: „For the 2025 season, I will be serving as the Head Coach and Pitching Coordinator for SaBaT in Prague, Czech Republic.“
