Marek Chlup won Conference Carolinas Championship with NGU
In the previous college baseball review we mentioned that North Greenville university didn’t enter the Conference Carolinas Championship well. After losing to Barton College, they moved to the loser bracket. But NGU seemed to have learnt from their mistakes.
Firstly, NGU won 21-8 against King University from Tennessee, and Chlup earned 3 hits from 4 AB. He also added one BB, a HBP and 3 runs.
On Saturday, North Greenville faced Belmont Abbey. Marek Chlup was once again in the starting lineup and with two hits and two RBI he helped his team to 12-7 win.
On Sunday NGU had to show they had what it takes in the game against Barton College who sent them to the loser bracket. NGU entered the game aggressively, winning 5-1 after two innings. Marek Chlup had the first run in the game for his team. NGU could celebrate after nine innings as they won 13-2 and moved to the championship finale.
The finale was set to begin only few minutes after the game against Barton and NGU had to face the tournament favorites in Mount Olive. NGU’s John Michael Faile was able to get solo homerun in the first and the third inning and was awarded tournament MVP award after the game was finished. Chlup couldn’t add a hit in the game, but his teammates picked him up and the team took 5-1 win.
NGU became the winner of the conference tournament and will get a chance to play in the south-eastern region championship, where they will play against the champions from other conferences. Currently, it was not announced when will the tournament take place. We hope to see more good performances from Marek Chlup and also hope the scouts will take notice.
