Draci Brno won the sixth game and 23rd title

Friday saw the resolution of this year’s Czech Series and crowning of Extraliga champions. For the 23rd time the title went to Draci Brno.

Hroši Brno, playing at their home field, started likely the most dominant player of current playoff in Lukáš Ercoli. Draci relied on Gillian Wernet, who already had one win in the series.

Both starters kept their opponent scoreless in the first inning, but the first run came in the second inning, after Marek Krejčiřík’s sacrificial hit scored in Lukáš Trunkát. Draci responded in the following half of the inning, after the first three batters reached bases. Draci then scored 2 runs.

However, visitor’s momentum didn’t last long, as Hroši scored 2 runs and Wernet got substituted with Filip Čapka. But even he wasn’t able to stop Hroši right away and home team scored the fourth run.

But after that Čapka showed why he is Draci starter as he didn’t allow Hroši much. Home team was still leading 4-2 after seven innings and they could almost start thinking about the game 7. Furthermore, visitor lost Eugen Helder, who got injured and had to be substituted.

However, it was Draci who had a better 7th inning. First Arnošt Dubový and Martin Červinka reached the bases, and home team sent in Kellen Croce instead of Ercoli. Croce walked Jakub Hajtmar and Draci loaded the bases without an out. Then came a clutch hit from Pabel Manzanero, whose double cleared the bases and gave Draci the lead. Milan Prokop then extended the lead with a double.

Hroši thus only had 2 innings to prolong their Czech Series dream. Their hopes raised in the ninth inning, but in the end, Hroši were unable to score any more runs. After a contact from Jan Pospíšil that finished in the glove of Filip Moštěk the celebrations erupted in Draci dugout as the visitors took their 23rd title. It also meant Pavel Budský’s lengthy career came to an end in the best way possible.
